Hydrogeologist

We are seeking a talented Hydrogeologist to join our Geoscience Team.

In this role, you will work alongside a team of hydrogeologists and contaminated land specialists across Wales, providing expert advice and support to colleagues across Natural Resources Wales (NRW). Your work will focus on development planning, groundwater resources, and groundwater quality.

You will play a key role in delivering specialist technical guidance, including contributing to pre-application discussions with developers, assessing permit applications with potential risks to groundwater, and supporting the sustainable management of groundwater resources. This includes evaluating new groundwater abstraction applications, as well as reviewing remediation strategies and environmental investigations.

You will also contribute to the ongoing development of NRW’s geoscience regulatory approach. This will involve interpreting legislation, gathering evidence, and helping to develop operational policies, guidance, and practical tools to support staff across the organisation.

This position is based within the Strategy, Policy and Evidence Directorate, reporting to the Geoscience Team Leader. The role does not include line management responsibilities.

Driving is essential to this role as this role requires travel to remote locations with heavy equipment across Wales using NRW vehicles as part of their duties in the team. Public transport will not be appropriate and car sharing will not always be possible. You must hold a full and current UK driving license.

As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.
