Job Description

Natural Resources Wales is seeking a Senior Telemetry Specialist to act as the organisation’s principal authority on telemetry and real time monitoring. This is a nationally significant technical role, central to ensuring that NRW and its partners have access to the trusted, high quality data required to protect people, property, and the environment across Wales.

As NRW’s senior technical expert, you will set the strategic direction for the organisation’s telemetry capability—shaping its future development, assuring its resilience, and defining the standards that underpin operational delivery. You will provide technical leadership for the delivery of high quality telemetry services that support flood risk management, incident response, and water resources, enabling timely, evidence based decision making in both routine and high impact scenarios.

You will also act as NRW’s designated telemetry system manager. This includes ensuring alignment with data, digital, and IT standards, overseeing risk management, and continuous improvement so NRW’s telemetry services remain robust, secure, and capable of meeting future challenges.

As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

To make an informal enquiry about this role, please contact Alison Hanson at Alison.Hanson@cyfoethnaturiolcymru.gov.uk

Interviews will take place on w/c 1 June 2026 through Microsoft Teams

Successful applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) check. Appointments are normally made within 4 to 8 weeks of the closing date.

This role meets the criteria for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa route. Natural Resources Wales welcomes applications from non-UK citizens who are eligible to apply under this route, subject to confirmation by the Home Office.

Please note that while we may be able to support the Certificate of Sponsorship required for a visa application, the organisation does not cover the cost of the visa itself, including any associated fees for dependants.

The applicant must still meet the UK Skilled Worker Visa Eligibility and Requirement. For further information, please visit:  https://www.gov.uk/skilled-worker-visa
