Job Description

The role

At Natural Resources Wales (NRW), our Flood Risk Analysis team plays a vital role in protecting communities by producing and managing the flood risk mapping and modelling evidence that underpins all our flood risk management work.

As an Advisor, you’ll be responsible for managing NRW’s extensive catalogue of flood risk data—providing hydraulic models and technical advice both internally and to external customers, including other Risk Management Authorities. This is an excellent opportunity to build on your existing knowledge of flood risk management, with NRW offering support to help you develop hydraulic modelling skills and contribute to our ongoing programme of mapping and modelling.

Your role will involve maintaining and enhancing flood risk datasets and archives, ensuring our evidence base remains complete, accurate, and accessible. You’ll help improve our understanding of flood risk by undertaking modelling work and reviewing third-party models submitted in support of new developments.

You’ll also contribute to the Wales Flood Map—a key public resource accessed via our website—which plays a vital role in communicating flood risk to affected communities. Providing accurate, up-to-date data and evidence to stakeholders will be central to your work, supporting projects and schemes in flood-prone areas.

In addition, you’ll capture and analyse flood incident data to inform future modelling and deepen our understanding of flood mechanisms. You’ll advise partners and stakeholders, helping them interpret and apply our data effectively to support decision-making and resilience planning.

As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the NRW office at the above location and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

To make an informal enquiry about this role, please contact Neil Taunt at Neil.Taunt@cyfoethnaturiolcymru.gov.uk

Interviews will be face to face (details of time and location will be shared in advance)

Successful applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) check. Appointments are normally made within 4 to 8 weeks of the closing date.
