The role

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our Integrated Workforce team, which works in the Bridgend and the Vale of Glamorgan area within South Wales Central.

In this rewarding, hands-on role, you’ll join a dedicated team that takes pride in its purpose. You’ll carry out a range of essential, practical tasks across Natural Resources Wales (NRW) sites — from flood-risk infrastructure to forestry sites and National Nature Reserves — helping us keep communities safe and enable nature to flourish.

This is a physically active, predominantly outdoor role — you’ll work in all weathers and frequently in challenging, remote locations alongside a small team of 2–4 colleagues. As a key member of the team, you’ll be required to operate a variety of hand tools, such as hooks, scythes, and powered tools such as strimmers and pole saws and other specialized plant such as a robomower and woodchipper. You will also fulfill the important role of a banksman by supervising the safe movement of plant on a site.

Given the nature and location of our work, we are looking for someone who is self-motivated, safety-conscious, confident in working in or near water, comfortable using tools and equipment, an effective communicator, works well within a team environment and confident with using basic IT. Full training will be provided to help you succeed.

Additionally, you’ll be part of a 24-hour emergency response team, participating in a standby rota and delivering crucial assistance during flood events or other incident responses.

The role follows a 9-day working pattern (with every second Friday off), and a badged vehicle is provided for travel to and from site. A full driving licence is essential. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance

To make an informal enquiry about this role, please contact Gareth Jones at Gareth.Jones@cyfoethnaturiolcymru.gov.uk.

Interviews will be conducted in person. The location will be confirmed at a later date.

Successful external applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) check. We aim to make offers of appointment within 4 to 8 weeks of the closing date.
