The role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Development Underwriter to join our Gloucester based team. However, for the ideal candidate we will consider various locations and it will involve circa 60% travel within the UK.
What you'll be doing
As a Development Underwriter you will acquire and retain profitable business from brokers in your assigned region. By developing advantageous relationships with key brokers and working with the Sales Team, you will identify and acquire new business opportunities. At this level of role, we will also be looking for you to be a source of support for colleagues within the Underwriting Centre, Trading Branch and Brokers . Through your expansive knowledge and experience, you will be guiding and helping them to improve their underwriting and trading skills.
What we are looking for:
Delivery of New and Existing Business financial plan (including rate carry and retention)
Underwrite in accordance with PUA and Underwriting Guidelines to meet required profit targets
Act as a referral point for lower level PUAs within the Branch and support Brokers in dealing with risks.
On site underwriting in Brokers offices negotiating new business and renewals
Executing portfolio analysis of potential roll-over deals and recommending underwriting strategy on these
Improve own contribution through active self development
Deliver quality broker service in line with Broker Segmentation service levels
Identify, own and manage the risks involved in running our business appropriate to my role and in line with the DLG Insurance Risk framework and associated governance frameworks
Contribute to wider business activities including support to Senior Technical Underwriter
Effective usage and update of Tools and Systems
Develop effective working relationships with Underwriting Centre and Trading Branch to support delivery of objectives and facilitate business development
Support large case management of existing cases and new business prospects
Qualities youll need
Experience of Commercial underwriting, preferably agricultural.
An analytical mind manipulating and extrapolating Management Information and using the data to challenge and improve broker & product performance
Extensive relationship management and stakeholder management skills
Result driven and self motivated
Strong communications skills written and verbal
Proficient in use of Microsoft office
Hours: 35 hours, Monday - Friday
