Job Description

This is an exciting time to join the Department as it has a crucial role to play in transforming the British economy as we recover from the impact of the Covid pandemic, transition following departure from the European Union and drive the country towards a stronger, greener future – creating jobs, growth and opportunities across the UK.

You will handle an agenda that combines intellectual challenge, policy delivery, leadership and complex stakeholder management. This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference to the country’s long-term economic prosperity.  You will do this through promoting investment, building partnerships between the government and industry, handling distressed situations and engaging closely with business to take advantage of the new business environment. The role acts as a crucial nexus between the public and private sectors.

You will have exceptional collaborative and communication skills, with the capability to build strong and productive relationships that will influence and engage external senior business leaders; combined with the ability and credibility to provide Ministers with advice on complex issues in a clear and straightforward manner.

The successful candidate will have the responsibility to lead and develop an inclusive and engaged directorate of 90 staff and will work closely with a range of stakeholders and advise ministers. They will have outstanding leadership skills, with a strong policy or strategy background with a good understanding of business. You must have experience of leading on complex projects and the ability to work to tight deadlines.

BEIS is a great place to work – people are enabled and supported to perform to their best and the culture is energetic, collaborative, kind and inclusive with excellent flexible working. The successful candidate must be DV cleared (or willing to obtain DV clearance).

Closing date: 18 October 2020.
