Delivering support with a difference. Thats when it hits home.

At Home Group its critical we continue to deliver services for our customers during the COVID-19 outbreak, and our awesome colleagues are at the very heart of making that happen.  We're doing things a little differently at the moment, so to keep you and our customers safe, well engage with you digitally.

We have a rewarding opportunity for you to join our Transforming Care team, helping our brilliant customers to live a fulfilling life in their own home within the local community.  Our team support customers who have complex support needs which may include autism, communication differences, learning disabilities, complex mental health conditions alongside ongoing physical health challenges.

As part of our new team of Support Workers (known internally by us as Positive Behaviour Support Worker), youll be assisting two wonderful, yet complex young men who are brothers and in fact twins!  They are autistic and love spending time indoors and outdoors doing the things they enjoy and are important to them. They have sensory processing difficulties and often seek out sensory feedback to help them regulate their emotions including playing music, exposure to running water, seeking out and repeating movements that are purposeful for them and other activities individual to them both.  This could be walking in the park, enjoying the experience of being in a swimming pool or going out for a supported drive in the countryside.

Understanding how these fantastic young men respond to sensory messages is important to be aware of, as sometimes sounds and smells as well as touch can feel different for them and be over stimulating or something that they seek out.  With the understanding and the help of our Team Leaders and clinical team, including our Positive Behavioural Support Specialist and Occupational Therapist, youll help coordinate activities and experiences meaningful to them and for them, so that they can participate in their favourite things as well as trying out new things that have been identified as aspirations for the future.

Youll be part of our brilliant new team providing support that is person-centred, recognises someones past life and experiences and builds on their strengths.  Youll be helping them to enjoy the best quality of life and live as independently as possible. Youll provide consistent customer focused support and routines underpinned by predictability, effective ways to communicate determined by customer preference.  You'll use your knowledge of our customers strengths, along the support of their amazing parents to maximise opportunities.  Youll be patient, have a calm disposition, great listening skills as well as remaining assertive and encouraging.

About our team

Youll report to Deb our Registered Manager who has worked for Home Group for 5 years.  Deb has loads of experience in working with customers with both mental health and learning disabilities. Deb has a clinical background in nursing and was an accredited psychotherapist (clever we know!) in a previous life before joining Home Group.  Outside of work youll find her watching her local football team, spending quality time with her family and just loves cooking for friends.

Where youll work

Youll work with our customers transitioning to their own home in Birmingham as well as assisting them in the community. Ideally youll have a full current driving licence and access to a vehicle or if not willing to use public transport to support them and well pay your expenses to cover this.

Working hours

Our customers need support 24/7 to meet their needs, so youll take your turn working on a rota which could include working days, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and waking nights. You may also be required to do sleep ins in which an enhancement will be paid.  As were asking you to be flexible for our customer, well also give you the time back that you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you!

Bank

Looking for a more flexible working pattern? You can also join us on a flexible basis by being part of our bank.  That way, you can work hours that fit around your current commitments or even pick up some additional shifts to your current role to earn some extra cash.  Check out our job advert for this too!

About you

Youre passionate and motivated to help our customers with any aspect of their day to day living. Youll impress us with your ability to work in a person centred, strengths-based and psychologically informed way, enabling your customers to enjoy the best possible quality of life.  Youll help change their life for the better by involving them (and their support network) in working towards their aspirations and achievements. Youll use our exciting new support practice model LIFE (Living Independently, Feeling Enabled) to deliver brilliant support by working closely to develop their own individual LIFE book.  Well tell you all about it when we meet you!  Youll provide personal care in a strengths-based way to facilitate greater independence, as well as use creative solutions, and assistive technology where available, to support independence.

Its important that you have worked in a social housing environment before, preferably with people that display behaviours of concern, are willing to provide personal care and have experience of helping customers to reach their full potential.  Holding a level 2 or equivalent in Health and Social Care, youll have a great understanding of professional boundaries, safeguarding, risk assessment, case management and working with personalised support plans. It would be great if you have some previous experience of positive behaviour support, but its not a deal breaker.

When you join, youll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you dont have a transferrable one.

How well support you

Dont worry, we wont drop you in the deep end, well nurture your talent, help you understand how things work here and youll have a fantastic induction with ongoing learning and development!  Youll be trained to keep an eye on customers mental and physical health, identifying any signs of deterioration, and take positive risk management to ensure our customers health and wellbeing.

We want you to get the right balance and to be and feel always at your best to continue to deliver brilliant outcomes for our customer.  So your wellbeing and taking time back when you need it too is our top priority!
