As an organisation we are embarking on an ambitious growth strategy in location data, insight and services. Innovating our products, services and technology to benefit our customers, businesses and people across Great Britain and globally. In order to do this, we want to continue adding new skills and capabilities to our business and even in these tough times, were able to use technology to recruit talent to OS.

About the role:

Youll be part of an organisation with an ambitious digital strategy to increase customer relevance, loyalty and value through new user experiences that maximise the use and benefit of geospatial data in GB. You will play a critical part in ensuring we can realise these goals.

This role fits within our PSGA Products and Propositions team and will take a user-centred approach to taking technical concepts and making them understandable and useable to audiences that include GIS specialists, developers and data scientists. Collaborating with various subject matter experts across a matrix organisation from those in our Product and Propositions  management, Customer Support and Marketing functions. Providing users with an excellent support experience of our products across the customer lifecycle.

The technical writer needs to be a self-starter who can take ownership of a plan and drive delivery of this through a virtual team.  Working both on delivering the immediate needs of the business but also championing the evolution of the way in which product technical documentation transitions from static PDFs to dynamic online content

You will ensure that relevant artefacts such as product guides, how-tos and product specifications are discoverable, accessible and usable across multiple audiences. The role drives consistency in format, style, tone and language when describing technical concepts, products and services across web and other forms. The role will involve stakeholder management to allow for prioritisation and focus which is aligned to the strategic objectives of the business. The role will involve you being able to regularly and clearly communicate with stakeholders.

The role will need to demonstrate a good understanding of technical terminology and have the capability to understand the product portfolio although not necessarily have a high level of technical competency. This is more around understanding the needs of the users and being able to translate these into requirements and deliverables for the business.

The technical writer will demonstrate organisation skills and will be able to identify and use available tools to track and manage how documentation is being used to ensure it is meeting the needs of the audience and manage the pipeline of new information requests or amendments.
