Citizens Advice offers confidential advice online, over the phone, and in person, for free. Through our national network of charities, we give people the knowledge and the confidence they need to find their way forward whoever they are, and whatever their problem.

We particularly welcome applications from disabled and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates as BAME and disabled people are currently under-represented throughout Citizens Advice. We are a member of the race equality campaign at Business in the Community, the Princes responsible business network and are committed to improving employment opportunities for ethnic minorities across the UK. We also welcome applications from LGB and Trans and non binary candidates.

We have made a positive commitment to employing disabled people and guarantee to interview all disabled candidates who meet the minimum essential criteria for the role as set out in role profiles.

We are looking for an outstanding person to lead our Families, Welfare and Work team for 12 months, covering a period of maternity leave.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on the big issues facing people across England and Wales today, joining a team with a track record of achieving change.

Were an organisation with a relentless focus on making society fairer. Our unique, realtime, data on the problems people across the country  are facing, alongside our strong reputation gives us unparalleled influence. We have a unique insight into emerging trends and issues affecting people, and we use it to work with government, regulators and industry to improve people's lives.

You will lead our Families, Welfare and Work team, setting our strategy and guiding the delivery of  a programme of crucial research and advocacy work ranging from improving Universal Credit and other financial support, the future of disability benefits or making sure people can access their employment rights. Youll work closely with colleagues in our data, public affairs, campaigns and media teams to maximise impact for our clients.

Youll work across policy areas and set ways of working and approaches to ensuring the team are well supported and reach their potential. Our strong brand will give you unique opportunities to engage with those who have the power to make change. Youll influence MPs and civil servants, regulators and industry bodies, on behalf of the people who rely on us.

This role also plays a key part in our senior leadership team looking at our policy priorities across the directorate and providing critical challenge to peers across the organisation. Youll be developing cross cutting work to ensure we have maximum impact across the directorate and lead work to continuously improve ways of working and make sure we are a great place to work.

We are looking for people with a wide range of skills, from exceptional judgement and excellent stakeholder management, to the personal authority required to be a leader in a large organisation. Knowledge of Families, Welfare and Work policy areas is not essential but desirable - were most interested in your skills and experience, not your subject knowledge.

We are always happy to consider flexible working, which may include arrangements such as part-time working, formalised flexitime, fixed (non-standard) working hours, working from home and job-sharing. €¯

This is clearly an extraordinary time and a difficult point at which to change jobs - but we are committed to making this as easy as possible for candidates. We will arrange interviews by video-conference and ensure inductions can be done in a way which make the successful candidate feel like a valued part of the organisation.

Please note, in the event of a high number of applications, we reserve the right to close the application early.

The National Citizens Advice Operates from offices in England and Wales, with 5 regional offices based in Cardiff, London, Birmingham, Leeds, and Liverpool, therefore all successful applicants must be based within England or Wales.
