Young People Support Worker

Gateshead, Tyne and Wear

Permanent, Full Time, 37.5 hpw

Salary £18,200 to £18,450 pa, rising to £19,200 through length of service

At Home Group its critical we continue to deliver services for our customers during the COVID-19 outbreak, and our awesome colleagues are at the very heart of making that happen. We need Brilliant People like you to join us (and not just during this challenging time). We are doing things a little differently at the moment, so to keep you, our customers and ourselves safe well engage with you digitally where possible. 

We have a fabulous opportunity for you to join our awesome team. We support our brilliant customers, who are young people 16-25 and who get support around their mental health and complex needs. They live in a supported accommodation in Gateshead area.

We help our customers with their independent living skills, managing their own tenancy, working on their challenging behavior, supporting them with education, work and with their mental health. We have got a Clinical Psychologist and an Occupational Therapist on site, Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.

About our team

Youll be working alongside our fabulous team, who are super passionate about supporting customers to reach their goals and celebrating their achievements. To us were not just a team were a €œwork family€. Our manager is Zeyad Ahmed and our Senior Manager is Karen Bailey. Between them they have over 30 years' experience of working in a care and support setting. There are 23 of us in the team (combination of coordinators, support workers, apprentice, clinical team and a lovely peer support worker) and we dont just love to support our customers, were there for each other too! 

Wendy, our Psychologist has just come back to work after having a baby (Our first Alexandra Road Baby) and Klaudia, our OT, who is Polish, came to work with us from Trinidad. We are a diverse team, who all enjoy a good laugh, work hard and try our best every day to attain the highest standards of service delivery, continually looking for way to improve and develop. You must be resilient to work with our client group, but the fulfilment and sense of achievement we get as a team when you see a customer move forward cannot be put into words. And also, did I mention that our Gateshead team won the 'top team' award for Home Star Award 2019? Yes, you heard it right!

Working hours  

We provide 24-hour support to our customers each day and every day. Youll work on a rota basis and take your turn on weekends and bank holidays. We need you to be flexible to meet the needs of our customers, but we aim to give you the time you need to spend it doing the things that matter to you!

About you

Youre passionate and motivated to help vulnerable people make positive and lasting changes to their lives. Youll impress us with your ability to work on your own initiative, positively influencing people from all different backgrounds. 

Youll help change our customers lives (and our services) for the better by undertaking risk assessments, support planning, goal setting and regular reviews. Youll create bespoke and personalised support plans with and for your customers. Each plan will look to meet our customers individual needs and aspirations, making sure they meet safeguarding and confidentiality requirements. Youll also have responsibility for coordinating our support workers, apprentices and volunteers, and working collaboratively with external agencies, to assess and engage support for our customers. We empower our customers to develop the independent living skills they need, to successfully move on. Together well make a difference!

To keep our records straight, and customers safe, it's important that you are technologically savvy (or at the very least not a technophobe!)

If youre not the biggest fan of technology, thats not a problem to us. You do need to know that we are quite a high-tech company and most of our application process and mandatory learning are online. However, were glad to support you, if you need help.  

To make sure our customers are well supported, its important that you have worked in a supported housing environment before. Dont worry, we wont drop you in the deep end, well help to you understand how things work at Home Group!

It would be amazing if you have worked in this type of environment before, however its your €œcan do€ positive attitude and enthusiasm that are critical to make this role a success. We can nurture your talent, just let us know in your cover letter why you have a passion for working here!

As this is a community-based role, youll need to travel around to spend time with your customers. You could do this role using public transport, or if you drive and have access to a car that would also be amazing! (we pay your expenses to cover this use!)

When you join, youll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you dont have a transferrable one.
