We have a fabulous opportunity for you to join our awesome team. We support our brilliant customers, who have fled domestic abuse and are rebuilding their lives. They live in either our shared house which has 7 rooms and can accommodate women and children or our self-contained flats that are a short walk away from each other. We help our customers to move past their domestic abuse experiences, rebuild their lives and live abuse free.

Customer quote
€œI was broken and defeated with nowhere to turn when you met me at the local train station. You gave me sanctuary, safety and a place to heal so thank you from the bottom of my heart.€ Sue, a former customer.

About our team
Youll be working alongside our fabulous team, who are super passionate about supporting customers to reach their goals and celebrate their achievements. To us were not just a team were a €œwork family€. In our service we have Nikki who is our refuge guru, she has been a support coordinator for a very long time and knows the refuge inside out.  We have Jacqui, who is our mental health specialist, she takes care of our second house and advises us when we need extra help with our clients diagnosed with mental health conditions.

We also have Vanessa who is the newest support coordinator in our team but she brings a wealth of knowledge from her previous role and is a whizz with supporting Universal Credit and Housing Benefit claims. She works part time around her young family so although you wouldnt necessarily see her often you would be her counterpart.  Our manager is Kelly, who is quite new in post, but is also the childrens worker for the refuge. Kelly works alongside the support coordinators supporting our youngest clients, ensuring the team are supported and delivering a brilliant service!

Working hours
We are looking for a motivated, caring and empathetic colleague to join our team in Southampton refuge for 15 hours a week (9:00 am 5:00 pm Tuesday and Friday) for a 12 month contract.

About you
Youre passionate and motivated to help vulnerable people make positive and lasting changes to their lives. Youll impress us with your ability to work on your own initiative, positively influencing people from all different backgrounds.

Youll help change our customers lives (and our services) for the better by undertaking risk assessments, support planning, goal setting and regular reviews. Youll create bespoke and personalised support plans with and for your customers.  Each plan will look to meet our customers individual needs and aspirations, making sure they meet safeguarding and confidentiality requirements. Youll also have responsibility for coordinating our support workers, apprentices and volunteers, and working collaboratively with external agencies, to assess and engage support for our customers.

You will have responsibility for your own clients within the refuge and the support of a well-established team, each day can be very different in refuge and at times it can be challenging. We empower our customers to develop the independent living skills they need, to successfully move on. Together well make a difference!

To make sure that we keep our records straight, and customers safe, it's really important that you are technologically savvy or at the very least not a technophobe! Youll be given the latest IT kit, which could include a Surface Pro tablet and a smart phone, supported by our new online integrated IT system which means that you dont have to be in the office as you can complete support plans on the go.

It would be amazing if you have worked in this type of environment before, however its your €œcan do€ positive attitude and enthusiasm that are critical to make this role a success. We can nurture your talent, just let us know in your cover letter why you have a passion for working here!

As this is partly a community based role, youll need to travel around to spend time with your customers. You could do this role using public transport, or if you drive and have access to a car that would also be amazing! We pay your expenses to cover this use!

When you join, youll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you dont have a transferrable one.
