Job Description

Scientist (Molecular Biologist/Biochemist)

This is a 12 month fixed term contract.

The Research and Technology Development (RTD) department is looking for an innovative Scientist to join its UK-based team. The successful candidate will be expected to design, develop and optimise assays to support the development of Illuminas core technologies.

This vacancy represents a great opportunity to join a dynamic, fast paced and talented team working at the cutting-edge of innovation. Depending on seniority and individual interests, there will be opportunities to span from instrument-oriented technology development to the delivery of new solutions for customers, via bio/chemistry innovation and assay development.

Responsibilities:

Design, perform and present experiments independently.

Identify creative solutions to problems and invent new methodologies and workflows to improve Illuminas sequencing technologies.

Take a leadership role on projects and guide technical areas independently.

Work closely with cross-disciplinary teams within and outside of RTD.

Write reports and present results and project assessments to Senior Management.

Education, experience and requirements:

Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or other related scientific discipline plus relevant experience in an academic or industrial laboratory; OR equivalent work experience.

The desire to understand the fundamental aspect of a technology, and the ability to identify ways to improve it.

Proven ability to think innovatively toward solving problems effectively and efficiently.

A team player, interested in delivering as a team, rather than individually.

Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience in scientific programming and large dataset analysis is preferable.

Prior experience in Illumina Sequencing and Library Prep Sequencing methodologies would be a plus, but is not a requirement for this position.
