Illumina Laboratory Services (ILS) UK completed the sequencing for the Genomics England 100k project and is now entering the next phase of the genomics agenda within the UK and needs an exceptional candidate to help.
ILS-UK has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Bioinformatics Manager to lead the Bioinformatics Team. This detail orientated leader will be responsible for manging a team of Bioinformatics analysts that deliver various complex bioinformatic investigations and analysis. They will also coordinate our participation in external quality assurance programs, inter-laboratory comparisons and develops standards for clinical NGS pipeline benchmarking
You will be joining a high performing team that works closely with other teams across ILS, including Software Engineering, Operations, Data Science and Development. This technical manager role will be expected to play an integral role in guiding these multidisciplinary groups to support cutting-edge sequencing operations and data analysis that make a difference to peoples lives,
Day-to-day activities involve managing the bioinformatics scientific input on multiple development projects, complex operational investigations and analytical validation, ensuring clear priority and resourcing decisions are made to facilitate delivery of these activities. This individual will also deliver documentation as required as part of our Quality Management System.
Responsibilities
Hiring, managing and developing a team of Bioinformatics analysts
Innovate and develop analytical approaches for use within an ISO 15189 medical testing laboratory.
Support Operations as a Subject Matter Expert, leading complex investigation as required
Coordination of External Quality Assurance Schemes and inter-laboratory comparison activities, including communications with stakeholders.
Acts as Subject Mater Expert under external assessment conditions
Supports other scientists within the organization in verification/validation/investigation activities.
Create and Deliver documentation required for compliance
Lead cross-site projects and collaborations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Line Management experience in bioinformatics
Extensive experience in Next Generation Sequencing bioinformatics data analysis
Expert knowledge of and proficiency with standard bioinformatics and analysis tools and packages.
Proficiency in R and Python.
Applied statistics and statistical analysis skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to multi-task, stay organised, and incorporate feedback in a fast-paced environment.
Must be detail orientated and have exceptional problem-solving skills
Desirable
Experience of working within a regulated environment, ideally to medical device standards or ISO 15189.
Risk management experience
Demonstratable project management experience in complex matrix organisations
Qualifications
Ph.D or equivalent in Bioinformatics, computational biology, or related field required.
