Job Description

Support Worker Waking Nights & Weekends

City Centre, Newcastle upon Tyne

Full Time (37.5 hpw) and Part Time (flexible hours)

Salary circa £18,000 negotiable based on skills and experience, plus brilliant benefits!

Empowering customers to live rewarding and happy lives. Thats when it hits home.

Here in Tyneside and Northumberland Home Group have a large number of support services and properties, which help our many customers who all have individual and varying needs. Our small €œOut of Hours€ team is based in the City centre of Newcastle and we support our customers and colleagues when most of the business is at home or asleep. We are the internal emergency support and offer guidance, advice and practical help, to services across the area when the rest of the business is off duty.

We have a great opportunity for you to join our small (but perfectly formed) team, as one of our Support Workers. Youll be the first point of call to our customers and colleagues when they need help, and youll support them both on the phone, but about a quarter of the time that will also be in person (face to face). Youll soon discover that no shift at work is ever the same, but we like it that way!

Youll respond to all the weird and wonderful requests we receive (and we get some corkers!). One shift you may have to go out to reset a boiler and tripping light switches after a power cut, the next you may be liaising with the police over anti-social behaviour or a missing person. Youll update our records, ensure the safety and security of our more vulnerable customers or may even carry out some light cleaning duties, we deal with it all!

This is not a job for the faint hearted you will need to take the lead in some tough and unusual situations, as well as being comfortable making (what can be at times tricky) decisions. The great news is youll generally work with a partner as well as having the support from our On Call Manager.

About our team

Although youll work nights and weekends, we do get together regularly in the day time for training and team meetings. Youll be part of our wider team who are super passionate about supporting customers to reach their goals and celebrating their achievements.  To us were not just a team we are a work family and pretty tight. Our manager Stephen has worked at Home Group over 5 years now and he set our team up. Outside of work Stephen enjoys attending music festivals, but unusually doesnt attend these in the UK as he much prefers festival goers outside of the UK and combining a trip abroad. There are 6 of us in the team at the moment and we cant wait to welcome you! We dont just love to support our customers, were there for each other too!

Working hours

Youll work on a rota basis between the hours of 5pm - 9am Monday to Friday and we cover both days and nights on weekends and bank holidays. We split our shifts from 4hrs to 12 hour shifts. We need you to be flexible to meet the needs of our customers, but we aim to give you the time you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you!

About you

Youre passionate and motivated to help vulnerable people make positive and lasting changes to their lives. Youll impress us with your ability to work on your own initiative, positively influencing people from all different backgrounds. You will have great experience in safeguarding, risk assessments, confidentiality, support plans, alongside working collaboratively.

To make sure that we keep our records straight, and customers safe, it's really important that you are technologically savvy (or at the very least not a technophobe!)

To make sure our customers are well supported, its important that you have worked in a Care and Support environment before. Dont worry, we wont drop you in the deep end, well help to you understand how things work at Home Group!

As you may be called on to support one of our services within patch (Tyneside and Northumberland), in an emergency it would be amazing if you drive and have access to a car insured for business purposes! (Dont worry, we pay your expenses to cover this use!) Its not a deal breaker if you dont drive, as we will provide your transport when needed.

When you join, youll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you dont have a transferrable one.
