About the role

This is a brand-new role within the Investment Office which will offer you exposure and experience across a wide range of industries, sector and asset classes, including commercial real estate loans, infrastructure debt and private placements.

Reporting to the Head of Illiquid Credit, this role will support Phoenix’s investment in illiquid assets, through undertaking credit analysis for new investments and management and risk oversight of existing illiquid credit exposures. The role will include challenging investment strategy, oversight of portfolio construction and undertaking loan management

Role duties

Operating with a high degree of autonomy, working within the wider Illiquid Credit team in our Investment Office across a number of initiatives and actions, specifically:

undertake and support credit risk analysis for illiquid credit assets including coordinating Illiquid Credit submissions into ICRC,

oversight of illiquid credit assets, including those managed by external appointed Asset Managers,

ensuring appropriate systems, controls, reporting and documentation is held for all illiquid assets,

ensuring robust risk management of commercial loans is in place and fits within the wider Group Risk Management Framework,

ensuring appropriate business input into legal agreements for commercial loans,

ensuring appropriate Monitoring and Reporting is embedded within governance structure.

Managing the coordination, analysis and submission of Illiquid Credit Management Information into governance committees (e.g. Internal Credit Rating Committee (“ICRC”) and Investment Management Committee (“IMC”).  

Leading strategic projects and reporting on the progress of projects to senior stakeholders/formal committees (IMC/ICRC) and presenting to those same committees.

Supporting and guiding colleagues, outside of the Investment Office, who may have less familiarity with the illiquid credit asset class

As it is a new role, the successful candidate would have a pro-active, problem-solving mind-set and would be expected to take ownership, develop effective processes and create solutions where precedents do not exist.

Essential

Good credit risk underwriting skills in illiquid credit assets

Knowledge and experience of credit rating methodologies

Track record of delivery, including management of multiple projects

Excellence in stakeholder management and collaborative working

Strong analytical skills, including the ability to draw sound conclusions from large datasets

Desirable

Rating agency experience

Knowledge and experience of Solvency II regulation and Prudent Person Principle

Experience of valuation for illiquid credit assets

Experience in engaging with external governance bodies and regulators

Experience of managing loan workouts
