Job Description

Up to £80,000 (Cabinet Office rules on pay apply to existing civil servants)

The Home Office is one of the original great Departments of State and has one of the most challenging jobs in Government. Its mission is fundamentally important: to keep Britain’s streets safe and its borders secure. Each and every member of Home Office staff plays a part in making that happen.

With a budget of £10.7bn, the Home Office leads on immigration and passports, drugs and crime policy, counter-extremism and counter-terrorism and works to ensure visible, responsive and accountable policing in the UK. These issues are at the heart of the Government’s agenda.

The Deputy Director Refused Case Management is a high-profile leadership role dealing with sensitive, complex and contentious cases.

The post is located in the Immigration and Protection Directorate, within UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI). The Directorate makes some of the most complex immigration decisions, defending those decisions before the courts and providing associated support functions to the wider borders, immigration and citizenship system.

The Refused Case Management command has a broad range of responsibilities dealing with some of the most complex protection-based claims and investigating whether individuals who have been granted some form of immigration status ought to have that status removed. All areas of the command’s responsibilities are high profile and rely on highly trained, highly motivated teams to make sensitive decisions based on a range of complex evidence. The command consists of over 400 staff, all of whom work in Liverpool, and has a budget of £14m.

We are looking for an individual with experience of leading complex and sensitive case working operations, with a track record of successfully leading, nurturing and developing diverse teams.

You will be required to obtain Security Cleared (SC) level before taking up post.
