Job Description

The Natural History Museum (NHM) is a world-class visitor attraction, leading science research centre and commercial event space. We use our unique collections and unrivalled expertise to tackle the biggest challenges facing the world today. We care for more than 80 million specimens, both in our London and Tring museums, spanning billions of years and welcome more than five million visitors annually.

We are at a pivotal moment in our history as we will soon launch a new strategy setting out our role as the natural world faces increasing threats. Building on our world-leading collection, global reputation for science and as one of the world’s leading visitor attractions, the NHM has ambitious plans leading up to the 150 anniversary of the opening of the Waterhouse Building in 2031, making this a truly exciting time to be part of the NHM team.

About the role

You will implement the Museum’s Space Management Policy, and identify and develop effective solutions to site-wide accommodation and space management challenges to ensure a sustainable and effective estate. This will be both strategic advice and detailed space planning at an operational level.

The post supports the management and administration of the Museum estate through the proactive supervision of our spaces, and works in partnership with Museum colleagues to assist safe and effective management of project activities; protecting ongoing business operations.

Accurately capturing and managing the allocation of space records, you will ensure the most appropriate utilisation of space to meet short, medium and long-term business needs. A key requirement is day to day management of the Museum space to maximise financial and operational performance. New ways of working and improved space utilisation that ensure that departments, across the Museum, utilise their space to the maximum will be a component of this role.

About you

You will rely on your strong planning and organisational skills to allocate space to various departments in the Museum.

To be successful in this role you will have good AutoCAD skills and a grounding in space management; along with good negotiating and influencing skills. This will be teamed with the ability to undertake site measured survey and update existing AutoCAD plans.

It is important that you also demonstrate a forward-looking attitude and a willingness to learn and develop, particularly in relation to technological developments and the digital data-driven future.

Closing date: 9am on Thursday 13 February 2020 Interviews will be held on: 25 or 28 February 2020
