Job Description

The Natural History Museum (NHM) is a world-class visitor attraction, leading science research centre and commercial event space. We use our unique collections and unrivalled expertise to tackle the biggest challenges facing the world today. We care for more than 80 million specimens, both in our London and Tring museums, spanning billions of years and welcome more than five million visitors annually.

We are at a pivotal moment in our history as we will soon launch a new strategy setting out our role as the natural world faces increasing threats. Building on our world-leading collection, global reputation for science and as one of the world’s leading visitor attractions, the NHM has ambitious plans leading up to the 150 anniversary of the opening of the Waterhouse Building in 2031, making this a truly exciting time to be part of the NHM team.

About the role

This role will help meet the graphic design needs of the Museum by delivering creative and effective design solutions in keeping with our cultural and organisational objectives.

Reporting to the Graphic Design Manager, you will work across differing departments in the Museum to deliver work of the highest quality, ensuring it meets with design industry standards and effectively competes within a commercial and aesthetic context with other national and international Museums and institutions.

Together with the wider Design team, you will also provide design solutions that inform, inspire, and where necessary, challenge audiences through delivering our programme.

About you

You will have broad professional experience producing a wide range of graphic material covering marketing, retail and publishing, with a good understanding of related production techniques. Along with solid, practical understanding of how current access guidelines need to be reflected in graphic work destined for a mass audience, you will also have an in depth and ongoing knowledge of Creative suite of software.

Experience of working with and developing high profile brands will be advantageous.

Closing date: 9am on Wednesday 22 January

Interviews will be held on: w/c 3 February
