Job Description

Open to the public since 1881, the Natural History Museum is one of the world’s most highly regarded museums and one of the most popular visitor attractions in the UK. We are internationally recognised for our dual role as a centre of excellence for scientific research and as a high-profile communicator of natural history through our public programme, educational activity, books and digital media. We are also challenging the way people think about the natural world –its past, present and future.

About the role

As a Science Educator, you will join the Learning Engagement team at the Natural History Museum which aspires to become a world leader in face-to-face museum learning in terms of quality and effectiveness.

Science Educators are key to achieving the department’s aims, delivering an exciting array of inspiring and engaging natural history and science learning experiences to our diverse audiences; making learning accessible and memorable. The programmes and experiences include a range of subject matter, delivered across a number of platforms which includes shows, workshops, tours and handling stations. These activities range in size, from delivering a show to 100 people or engaging with individuals. All our activities encourage scientific inquiry, questioning and dialogue.

We have more than one part time role available; working 18 hours per week, and also a weekend position.

About you

The successful candidate will have experience working with a wide range of audiences, specifically children, and will have an understanding of how people learn. You will ideally have experience of delivering educational activities in a natural science environment or equivalent and have a passion for natural history with excellent face-to-face communication and team-working skills.

Closing 09:00 on Thursday 19 December 2019 Interviews expected 7 - 9 January 2020
