Job Description

The Natural History Museum's purpose is to inspire a love of our natural world and to help unlock answers to the big issues facing humanity and the planet.

We want to help people across the UK to experience a connection with the nature they encounter every day, wherever they live and whoever they are. We want to use the opportunities offered by digital experiences to achieve this goal.

But to do this we need to understand the barriers and problems our users face in engaging with nature, and what opportunities there are for us to improve our existing or build new digital experiences to help. This is where you come in.

What will you be doing?

You will be based within the Digital Media department, inside the iconic Natural History Museum in South Kensington, London. Our department is made up of cross-functional product teams consisting of developers, UX and digital designers, product managers and content producers.

You'll need to work closely with stakeholders across the Museum, including our Audience Insights team and the larger team looking at on-site activities and programmes that will complement the digital work. You’ll become a passionate expert on our current and potential digital audiences and where the opportunities and barriers are to helping them connect with nature through digital.

As a Museum, and through this project, we are growing - and learning - and we would love for you to join us on our journey. We're looking for pro-activity, collaboration, new ideas and opinions.

What are we looking for?

• Experience of planning and conducting user research with diverse audiences • Broad knowledge of user research methodologies and practices • Deep understanding of user-centred design practices • Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex research data into clear, actionable insights that a digital delivery team can take forwards • The confidence to involve colleagues and stakeholders throughout the research process • Experience bringing cross-functional teams into user research

You may also...

• Have experience working in agile methodologies • Have experience working in the cultural heritage or nature sector

Fixed Term Contract: 12 months

Closing 9am on Monday 2 December 2019
