University Building Surveyor job, based in South Wales

Your new organisation
You will be joining a prestigious university that is renowned for its academic excellence and research impact. The university has a diverse and vibrant community of students, staff and visitors, and offers a range of facilities and services to support its core activities. The university's estate comprises over 70 buildings, including historic and listed properties, modern teaching and research spaces, student accommodation, state-of-the-art sports and leisure facilities, and administrative offices in Cardiff, Treforest and Newport. The estate team is responsible for the planning, development, maintenance and management of the university's assets, ensuring that they are fit for purpose, sustainable and aligned with the university's strategic vision.
Your new role
As a Building Surveyor, you will be part of the estates team that delivers surveying, projects and facilities management services across the university's portfolio. You will be involved in a variety of projects, such as condition surveys, defect diagnosis, planned maintenance, refurbishment, alteration, adaptation and compliance works. You will manage a £250,000 annual budget for minor works through the portfolio. You will also provide professional advice and guidance on building-related matters to internal and external stakeholders, such as academic departments, contractors, consultants and statutory authorities. You will ensure that all works are carried out in accordance with the relevant standards, regulations, policies and procedures, and that they meet the expectations of the end-users and the university's strategic objectives.
What you'll need to be successful
A degree in building surveying or a related discipline, or equivalent professional qualification. Proven experience of delivering building surveying services in a complex and diverse environment, preferably in the higher education sector, but this is not essential. Sound knowledge of building construction, design, maintenance and repair techniques and hold a good building pathology.
What you'll get in return
