Basic Function and Scope of the Position:
 
As the Senior Director, Illumina Accelerator UK you will be responsible for directing the activities of Illumina Accelerator in Cambridge, UK.

Illumina Accelerator was founded in 2014 in the San Francisco Bay Area, and has seen investment in 29 start-ups over the last 5 years, and is now expanding to EMEA with the launch of Illumina Accelerator UK , our first expansion site and our first international location.  We aim to catalyze genomic innovation in the entrepreneurial community. With extensive coaching, financial support, and access to sequencing systems, reagents, and lab space, weve created a dynamic genomic ecosystem to help startups launch. Tasks and Responsibilities:

    Own the development of the vision/strategy for Illumina Accelerator in UK; drive functional strategies and implementation tactics.
    Develop Illumina Accelerator UKs policy and programs that result in company-wide impact.
    Lead and manage weekly speaker forums for start-ups and thought leadership events for startups, investors, academics, and partners.
    Establish relationships with leading academic, government, and industry partners.
    Expand partnerships with leading Venture Capitalists, Angel investors, industry partners, law firms, banks, staffing firms, accounting firms, etc.
    Create curriculum for start-ups at the accelerator
    Participate in evaluating startup applications and selection process
    Source and recruit high-quality startup applicants that can benefit from resources provided by Illumina Accelerator UK.
    Provide coaching to the startups and oversee their progress and connect startups to internal and external coaches.
    Create and deliver compelling presentations and present company objectives to internal and external partners.
    Interface and liaise with cross functional Illumina team members such as commercial, legal, sales, manufacturing, and R&D.
    This position does require flexibility to travel.
    Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Educational Background:

    Requires a PhD, MD or MBA

Preferred Experiential Background:

    Significant relevant business, venture capital, entrepreneurial, or startup experience
    Have been a serial life science or technology entrepreneur who has secured at least £10 million in venture capital from leading investors or have been an active life science or technology investor who has lead over £20 million in investment decisions and activities
    Excellent understanding about genomic industry.
    Demonstrated experience in taking conceptual research through development to a viable product for commercialization
    Strong leadership and management skills
    Strong mentoring skills
    Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and presentation
    Have a large network of VCs, Angel Investors, entrepreneurs, and executives at different companies
    Have wet-lab experience in genomics, preferably with NextGen sequencing and its applications
    Involvement in other accelerators is a plus
