Job Description

Support Worker, Young adults with Learning disabilities
Full Time 37.5 hours per week
Permanent role, Salary of £17,600 to £18,000 pa pro rata
£9 per hour if youd prefer to work on our bank on a casual basis

We have fabulous opportunity for you to join our awesome team. We support our brilliant customers who have learning disabilities, and who live in independent supported living houses across the city of Newcastle upon Tyne.
 
We help our customers in a variety of ways but some of this will involve supporting with medication, budgeting and promoting day to day living skills. You could also find yourself accompanying a customer to college, their volunteering placement or even to the cinema or pub! We support our customers to live their lives, and this involves helping them to stay safe at home and out in the community but also explore new and current interests and aspirations. You are someone who can think on their feet and is able to confidently support someone who can present with a challenging behaviour.
We support young adults, some of who have just moved out from their parents houses. Thats why its really important that we allow these customers to develop not only their skills, but also build on their confidence and self esteem to find a place in the world that allows them to be themselves as independently as possible.
You will really make a difference, empowering our customers to develop the independent living skills they need for a positive future, as well as having lots of fun and feeling rewarded every single day!
 
About our team
Youll be working alongside our fabulous team who are super passionate about supporting customers to reach their goals and celebrating their achievements.  To us were not just a team were a work family. Our managers are Rebekah Metcalfe who has worked for Home Group for 10 years in various roles and Phillip Dunn who has been managing the services for the past 4 years. The teams consist of a support coordinator and support workers level 1 and 2, each team size varies depending on the level of support the customer needs but we are all there for each other too!
 
Working hours
We provide 24-hour support to our customers each day and every day. Youll work on a rota basis and take your turn working days, evenings, weekends and bank holidays. We need you to be flexible to meet the needs of our customers, but we aim to give you the time you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you!
 
Bank
Looking for a more flexible working pattern? You can also join us on a flexible basis by being part of our bank.  You can work hours that fit around your current commitments or even pick up some additional shifts to your main role to earn some extra cash and get paid on a weekly basis.
 
About you
Youre passionate and motivated to help vulnerable people make positive and lasting changes to their lives. Youll impress us with your ability to work on your own initiative, positively influencing people from all different backgrounds.  You will have experience in safeguarding, risk assessments, confidentiality, support plans, alongside working collaboratively.
We help change our customers lives for the better. Youll play your part by assisting in the delivery of tasks that are based on our customers personal support plans, and their needs and aspirations. Youll work with our Senior Support Workers and external agencies to assess and engage support for our customers. We empower our customers to develop the independent living skills they need, to successfully move on. Together well make a difference!
If youre not the biggest fan of technology, thats not a problem to us. You do need to know that we are quite a high tech company and most of our application process and mandatory learning are online. However were glad to support you, if you need help. 
To make sure our customers are well supported, its important that you have worked in a learning disabilities environment before. Dont worry, we wont drop you in the deep end, well help to you understand how things work at Home Group!
 
If you are successful, we need you to have an Enhanced Disclosure Check through the Disclosure and Barring Service which well pay for.
