Job Description

Motability is a charity, incorporated by Royal Charter, which oversees the Motability Scheme, enabling 625,000 disabled people and their families to access transport options, which are suitable for them. Through the provision of cars, scooters and wheelchairs, the Motability Scheme gives people the freedom to get to work or college, meet with friends, enjoy day trips with their families, attend medical appointments and, in general, enjoy more fulfilled and autonomous lives. Motability provides strategic direction and oversight of the Scheme, which is delivered by Motability Operations.

The Director of Scheme Oversight (DSO) is a newly created role within Motability, which is intended to bring senior strategic leadership to the Charity’s relationship with its key external partners, most critically Motability Operations. This is a vital role given the centrality of the Scheme Agreement to Motability’s work and the appointee will be an influential and relied upon figure within the Charity. The importance of the Scheme to hundreds of thousands of disabled people, and the scale and complexity of Motability Operations, one of Europe’s largest leasing companies, make this a weighty and complicated role.

As such, the successful candidates will be a commercial-savvy senior leader, capable of understanding and engaging with a major commercial organisation as well as working effectively in a charitable setting. This person will have experience of influencing and oversight, ideally developed in the motor industry or a similar sector but potentially in any complex environment. The DSO will command the respect of others and have the interpersonal skills to build strong relationships while ensuring robust oversight of the Scheme.

Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency advisor to Motability on this appointment.  For further information about the role, including details about how to apply, please visit www.saxbam.com/appointments using reference FAMAOB.  Alternatively, telephone +44 (0)20 7227 0880 (during office hours).  Applications should be received by noon on Monday 22 July 2019.
