Represent Illumina in broad ranging general legal, employment and IP matters in EMEA.
The genomics revolution has a direct impact on how we study how humans evolved, how species adapt to new environments, and how individuals and tumors will react to drugs. We are already seeing that personalised genomic medicine is becoming a reality, with clinical decisions based on genomic information.
You will have the opportunity to work as part of a small but growing EMEA legal team and work directly with the Senior Director-Legal Counsel EMEA.
The successful candidate will join a team providing comprehensive, business-oriented advice, and bringing extensive legal, scientific and industry specific insights to Illumina. The role will involve providing the full range of legal, commercial and regulatory advice.

All about the role:
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Your role will be wide ranging and will involve counselling Illumina personnel located across EMEA on a wide-range of legal issues arising in connection with Illuminas day-to-day activities and the development and commercialization of Illumina products and services. You will report to the Senior Director, Legal.
Duties include:
Broad generalist role supporting all general and admin functions, including HR, facilities, R&D, finance, commercial.
To provide high quality and timely legal support to the business in line with its needs, the departments objectives and personal objectives
To act with the highest integrity at all times and in line with the Company handbook, values and culture and the Legal teams approach to delivery
To ensure compliance and best practice in all jurisdictions where the company operates
To actively engage with the internal business streams to draft, negotiate and advise on a variety of domestic and international agreements with suppliers and customers
Liaising with other departments on legal and compliance issues and provide appropriate input on legal team initiatives and policy development including on regulatory compliance or other information requests;
Providing training in legal matters for other departments;
To suggest and help with the development of new ideas, systems, processes and templates which improve the legal teams efficiency in delivery of advice to the business stream and effectiveness of procedures and methodologies of the department;
Oversee the Junior Attorney(s) and Paralegal(s) in a dotted line reporting capacity.
All about you:
Preferred Experience & Skills:
Excellent academics (LLB) from a top university, training from a leading firm
Solicitor or barrister qualified to practise in England & Wales with at least 5-10 years PQE;
Experience in a well-regarded life sciences team is essential for this position
Fluency to business level in English, both written and spoken
Self-motivated to drive work/projects forward
Well organized and proactive
Logical and process-minded with a keen eye for detail
Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop relationships with all parts of the business including the executive leadership team
An individual who takes a common-sense approach in their day to day work and has the confidence to make well balanced and informed decisions with practical benefits
Be able to grasp quickly and accurately new and complex concepts and areas of law;
Be able to work under pressure and as part of a (small) team
Have a dynamic approach to your work and an eagerness to work closely with the business providing pragmatic advice.
