Job Description

We require a Laboratory Aide with a chemistry related background to join our Research and Technology Development department based in Granta Park, Cambridge.

The role is part-time, offering 20 hours per week, we would be flexible to how these hours are spread out through the week.

The role will include/require:

    A highly organised person with an eye for detail who upholds safety and regulatory compliance within the laboratory. Some who is adept at problem-solving within a team setting.
    A-Levels in Life Sciences or equivalent, preferably Chemistry.
    Experience in chemical use and handling.
    Experience in laboratory equipment maintenance and technical support.
    Maintain laboratory and office consumable products, raising requisitions for replenishment where necessary.
    Assist the Laboratory Supervisor in the following:
        Maintaining chemical inventory by adding items as they arrive prior to hand over to laboratory staff. Also, to ensure all materials are stored in accordance to documented temperature requirements and in correct inventory locations.
        Auditing and organising chemical storage locations.
        Ensuring laboratory waste streams are correctly managed prior to collection and disposal.
        Keeping laboratory cleanliness and housekeeping in all areas under Illumina control to a high standard.
        Running monthly laboratory inspections and implementing corrective measures.
        Using LIMS to keep the equipment database up to date.
        Equipment relocation and calibration.
        Routine preventative maintenance of basic laboratory equipment.
        Liaising with internal Illumina departments and external visitors/contractors.
    Provide ad-hoc support to laboratory staff.
    Participate in scheduled inventory cycle counts.

The incumbent would be working in a brand new laboratory on a campus that has excellent facilities (gym, restaurants, and transport service to and from Cambridge)
