Do you have a passion for London and for improving the lives of the people who live, work and study here?

Do you thrive on change and doing things differently?

London is the greatest city in the world, but for too many Londoners, violent crime is a part of their everyday reality. We’re determined to tackle this problem and make London a safer city for all.

The Violence Reduction Unit ?is recruiting a small team to work on a new, innovative public health approach to tackling violence for London – bringing together a range of partners from health to schools to the police, to tackle the root causes of violence. We believe violence is preventable. We want to you to join our team to transform violence in London, both right now, and for the long term.

The Violence Reduction Unit will build on the success of this approach elsewhere such as Glasgow, as well as the Mayor’s existing work to tackle the causes of crime. It will also build on the ongoing hard work of London’s boroughs and community organisations to understand and address all forms of violence.

Practically, the VRU will aim to better understand the risk factors in a person’s early life that can lead to serious violence by using data from health, criminal justice and other public services.  It will focus on improved and quicker interventions at a local level, with the aim of reducing violence at its core and protecting those vulnerable to exploitation.

Change will not happen overnight. The VRU’s work will be long-term and will take several years to fully realise the benefits.

We are recruiting to the following roles:

Senior Policy & Commissioning Manager

Community Engagement Officers x2

Programme Manager

Executive Assistant

This is part one of our plans, there will be opportunities available when the Local Violence Reduction Units are created.

Senior Policy & Commissioning Manager

You will be expected to work collaboratively and build constructive relationships across the VRU partners, as well as with prospective providers, external partners and stakeholders to achieve MOPAC and VRU priorities. You will work with the Head of the VRU to contribute and deliver the work programme of the VRU MOPAC’s commissioning strategy and be involved in all aspects of the commissioning cycle, working in partnership with Criminal Justice and Commissioning colleagues to ensure effectiveness and value for money is achieved.

In addition to a good salary package, we offer an attractive range of benefits including 32.5 days’ annual leave. If you have a question about the role or the recruitment process please contact a member of the HR team via email on HR@mopac.london.gov.uk
