Are you a qualified and experienced teacher of British Sign Language (BSL)?Do you have a passion for teaching deaf and hard of hearing children in a primary school setting?We are working with a welcoming and inclusive Primary School in Tower Hamlets that serves a diverse community of pupils, including many who are deaf or hard of hearing. They are proud to be a bilingual school, where they promote and celebrate both English and BSL as languages of learning and communication. They have a specialist provision for deaf and hard of hearing pupils, where they receive tailored support from our team of qualified and experienced staff. We also encourage integration and interaction between deaf and hearing pupils, fostering a culture of mutual respect, and understanding.
Your responsibilities as a BSL Teacher
Planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality BSL lessons for pupils across all year groups, following the National Curriculum for BSLWorking collaboratively with class teachers, teaching assistants, speech and language therapists and other professionals to ensure that pupils' needs are metDeveloping pupils' confidence and competence in using BSL as well as EnglishProviding feedback and guidance to pupils and parents on their progress and achievementsContributing to the development and improvement of the BSL curriculum and provisionAttending training and meetings as requiredWhat you need to be successful in this role
Have a recognised teaching qualification, such as QTS or PGCEHave a minimum of Level 3 BSL qualification or equivalentHave previous experience of teaching BSL to primary school pupils, preferably in a mainstream settingHave knowledge of the National Curriculum for BSL and the Deaf Studies curriculumHave excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both in BSL and EnglishBe creative, enthusiastic, and motivatedBe able to work as part of a team and independentlyBe willing to undergo an enhanced DBS checkBenefitsHays Education in turn will provide you with the following benefits:
