Job Description

The Office for Students (OfS) is the new regulator for higher education in England. OfS`s primary aim is to ensure that English higher education is delivering positive outcomes for students - past, present, and future. Our objectives are to ensure that students, from all (particularly those from the most disadvantaged backgrounds):

1)Are supported to access, succeed in, and progress from, higher education

2)Receive high quality academic experience and their interests are protected while they study or in the event of provider, campus or course closure

3)Are able to progress into employment or further study, and their qualifications hold their value over time

4)Receive value for money

The Director for Fair Access and Participation (DFAP) leads on the OfS`s work to promote equality of opportunity in access and participation in higher education and supports technical pathways through higher education and progression into postgraduate education and research.

It`s important to us that our growing team is more diverse so we encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and identities. We`re especially keen to hear from black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates who are currently under-represented. We`re also a Disability Confident employer - we`ll provide a fully accessible recruitment process and offer an interview to disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the job.

As a Directorate, our goal is to ensure that all students from all backgrounds, with the ability and potential to benefit from higher education, should be supported to access, succeed in and progress from higher education. This is achieved through:

-Developing and implementing access and participation policy and strategy

-Issuing guidance on, assessing and monitoring access and participation plans

-Identifying and promoting effective practice in relation to access and participation, equality and diversity, and diverse pathways into and through all levels of higher education, and for employability, skills and the industrial strategy

-Development and delivering funding in support of these activities

We are recruiting for two different roles within the Fair Access & Participation Directorate; Senior Officer (DFAP10) and Officer (DFAP13). Both roles are located within the Directorate Resource Unit; which is a flexible and dynamic unit involved in the delivery of activities across the work of the Directorate.

Responsibilities may include access and participation policy development and implementation; contributing to the writing of guidance; assessing and monitoring providers` access and participation plans; liaising and supporting higher education providers, and identification and promotion of effective practice.

For the posts you will need to be able to demonstrate you are able to manage projects and process, have a good understanding of policy and practice related to access and participation or skills and the Industrial Strategy, synthesise information to provide credible advice, and communicate effectively to a range of different audiences.

Candidates should indicate in their application if they have a preference for a particular role. Appointment to pay band will be subject to an applicant`s skills and experience. Those wishing to be considered for the Senior Officer role will need to demonstrate a greater level of autonomy and project management experience.

Location: Bristol based, with some travel required.

The role is full time; however, we will consider job share and part time applicants.

Application deadline: 27th January 2019

Shortlist: 31st January 2019

Interview: 12th, 13th and 14th February 2019
