Are you a researcher with strong quantitative skills who would enjoy supporting our work to shed more light on the scale and nature of child sexual abuse? Many agencies have been interested by our approach to this, and you would assist in responding to local areas and relevant organisations that want to improve their data collection, as well as helping keep abreast of new data releases.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a unique, dynamic, multi-disciplinary team as a Research/Evaluation Officer.
We are the Centre of expertise on child sexual abuse (the CSA Centre). Our aim is to create a future where children are free from the threat and harm of sexual abuse by radically improving how we prevent and respond to the issue through really understanding its causes, scope, scale and impact.
Funded by the Home Office and hosted by Barnardo's, we are independent and will challenge any barriers, assumptions, taboos and ways of working that prevent us from increasing our understanding and improving our approach to tackling child sexual abuse.
We are focused on building knowledge and understanding by:
Collating and analysing existing research, policy, practice and the real experiences of those affected, and filling the gaps we identify with new research, insights and analysis;
Using that evidence and insight to challenge and improve existing policy and practice, develop new approaches and increase everyone's knowledge and confidence to more effectively tackle the issue.
The ideal candidate will:
Be educated to at least Degree level and with some research or evaluation element, and/or equivalent professional qualification/knowledge
Have undertaken training in research and evaluation methods and tools including both qualitative and quantitative approaches
Have experience of undertaking quantitative research, including secondary analysis of existing datasets
Have experience of social research or evaluation processes
Have experience of working in cooperation with professionals within public or voluntary sector agencies, ideally the childcare sector
Please note that this role is for a fixed-term until 31st March 2019. Applications for secondment will be considered and we are willing to consider part-time working for this role.
The role will be based at our Barkingside office, however, regular travel to our offices in Central London will be part of the role. Occasional working from home can be accommodated with prior agreement.
