Could you quickly build expertise in the hot issues for modern students and communicate your knowledge quickly and easily to help the Union make effective change for our members at Manchester Met?

Working within an inclusive, empowering and aspirational culture, youll be the go-to person at The Union for information and guidance on complex issues in Higher Education and other areas of interest to student representatives.

Who are we?

Part business, part charity, part membership body The Union is a seriously fun place to work. Professionally run, but different. Our professional team of over 150 people support elected student leaders to be effective in making change, improving lives and fulfilling potential. Winner of the NUS Campaigning Award 2017, The Union is one of more than 550 students unions across the country. Were located in the amazing city of Manchester, famous for its music, arts, sport, social heritage and diversity. With 38,000 plus student members, 150 student groups, a huge range of services and a bold strategy, were one of the most exciting.

Whats the job?

We are looking for someone to work with our Student Voice Manager to coordinate the social policy work of The Union, identifying focus areas and recommending actions.

With your keen interest and expertise in issues affecting students, you will undertake analysis of available insight and provide guidance on the practical implications of the Unions options.

Youll play a key role in providing evidential support to aid the creation of the Unions annual Engagement & Campaigns Plan.

Who you are

Someone with an understanding of the issues relating to participation and involvement in higher education, you have a servant mentality that removes personal politics from the support of elected representatives.

Someone with a can-do attitude, and an ability to manage and prioritise projects appropriately, youll stay calm in a sometimes-hectic environment.

Able to quickly absorb information on new and complicated issues, youll be used to summarising and articulating complex issues in an impartial and comprehensive manner and will have experience of writing reports, policies, briefings for other departments. You are a wonk.

You put your excellent interpersonal skills to great use in building relationships and working effectively with people at all levels, including officers, students, staff and partner organisations.

You already have an understanding of political and democratic processes, public accountability and reputational risk and experience of diversity, and of the principles and practice of equal opportunities.

Why apply?

There has never been a better time to work for The Union. Based just off Oxford Road in the centre of vibrant Manchester, The Union will train you thoroughly, reward you well and encourage you to build a long-term career that inspires you.
