Who are AbilityNet?

AbilityNet is the UKs leading charity for digital inclusion, and is the only charity in the UK that works with people with all disabilities and of all ages providing specialist advice services, free information resources and  consulting services to help build a more accessible digital world for disabled people to achieve their goals at home, at work and in education.

Emerging from IBM in the late 1980s, the charity has grown substantially, and continues to have the backing of a number of influential multinational businesses, including some of the biggest names in IT, and possesses a longstanding international reputation in the fields of digital accessibility and the use of assistive technologies.

In this new age of mobile computing, cloud services, wearable devices, connected appliances and a marked proliferation of technologies of all kinds, the need for AbilityNets expertise has never been more necessary.  Its ability to advise people with disabilities and its work to ensure that websites, apps and services of an impressive customer base - including numerous top brands in the UK - are digitally inclusive and accessible, continue to impact millions of lives each year.

Who are we looking for?

Following 11 successful years of service from our previous CEO, Nigel Lewis, we are now seeking an inspirational and influential leader, passionate about the use of technology in transforming the lives of disabled and older people, to lead the charity into its new phase of growth.

With the support of a strong board and a highly skilled senior management team, the CEO will be expected to be a credible advocate for the charity, representing AbilityNet at the highest levels with clients, government and other appropriate organisations and bodies. The successful candidate will have strong commercial acumen and financial literacy to ensure AbilityNet remains financially stable and sustainable. Crucially, they will need to demonstrate genuine engagement with the work of AbilityNet, and a strong fit with the charitys values.
