Job Description

Permanent, full time vacancy

Starting salary of £49,300 rising to £61,339 pa

Do you want to lead on forging new and effective relationships between London Councils, London boroughs and businesses in the capital? Whilst London continues to grow economically, the city is facing new challenges and opportunities around skills shortages and devolution, the impact of Brexit and continuing to be a great place to start and grow a business. All of this may matter even more to London boroughs, with the potential for the devolution of business rates as a way to fund local government services.

As Head of Business and Enterprise, you will work closely with senior officers and politicians to build and develop new and effective relationships with businesses and business representative organisations. You will develop policy and lobbying campaigns to promote enterprise and economic development in the capital, identifying key issues where both local government and business can work together effectively and speak with one voice. You will develop ways for businesses to effectively shape the skills system in London and identify opportunities for business and London boroughs to jointly work on other key policy issues.

You will have senior experience of leading policy development, finding creative solutions to complex problems and influencing stakeholders with your proven negotiating skills. You will also have experience of successfully working with businesses to deliver outcomes and building high trust relationships with external organisations. You will be experienced in working in a political environment, with a good knowledge of local government as well as business. You will bring excellent written and oral communication skills to explain complex issues clearly. A self-starter, you will manage projects effectively as part of a team.
