Job Description

Culture Coordinator, Creative Europe Desk UK This is a part-time contract of 3 days a week, to 31st December 2018 with possibility of extension. The British Council is the UKs international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. We create friendly knowledge and understanding between the people of the UK and other countries. We do this by making a positive contribution to UK and the countries we work with changing lives by creating opportunities, building connections and engendering trust. The Arts Through our work in Arts we find new ways of connecting with and understanding each other to develop stronger creative sectors around the world. Our expert team in the UK and around the world works to five broad aims: to share UK arts with the world; to foster collaborations and networks; to build capacity in creative sectors; to foster social change; and to support the shaping of policy and research. This cultural exchange helps create modern and vibrant creative sectors, building connections, trust and opportunity. It can also help to bring together divided communities and people affected by conflict. Our global Arts programmes include cultural seasons and festivals in countries around the world, supporting skills building and entrepreneurship, touring exhibitions of the UKs leading artists and designers, film festivals, book fairs, and dance, music and theatre performances and exchanges. The Team Creative Europe Desk UK promotes awareness and understanding of Creative Europe, and provides free advice and support for applicants from the UK. Creative Europe Desk UKs team of specialists is based across the UK (in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff and Belfast) and they organise workshops, seminars and industry events. The Creative Europe Desks, of which there is one in each European country participating in Creative Europe, provide information and advice to sector organisations looking to apply to programme opportunities. British Council is home to the Culture provision in England, the UK-wide Marketing and Communications Lead of CED UK who looks after both the MEDIA and Culture sub-programmes, and, from Spring 2017, the Culture and MEDIA provision in Northern Ireland. In the Creative Europe Desk UK team we use our connections and understanding of the UK screen, cultural and creative sectors to advise and support them with their understanding of and applications to Creative Europe. The successful candidate will support the Creative Europe Desk UK Culture England team to deliver an advice and support service to English cultural organisations wishing to apply for Creative Europe funding. Duties include assisting with the set up and delivery of seminars and workshops across England, managing the team's email and phone enquiries and processing data and finance requests. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a cross-organisational team, developing relationships with cultural organisations across the UK and Europe. For a conversation about the position contact Stephanie.Grant@britishcouncil.org The successful candidate must demonstrate the following essential skills and experiences: Experience in a client-facing role, assisting with ad hoc requests and enquiries Experience of supporting and delivering events and of office administration for example organising travel, finance and diary management. Ability to manage a range of projects and tasks concurrently and independently A good team player, who has proven experience of working well with others to achieve common goals Effective use of digital tools, including social media (i.e. Eventbrite, Twitter, CRM systems) Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) The main challenges and opportunities for this role include: (please see role profile for full details of the duties): Delivering a consistent, efficient and high quality enquiries service to a wide range of stakeholders Managing competing demands on time and resource. To contribute to digital marketing campaigns by posting on Twitter and other social media platforms and updating the Creative Europe Desk UK website.
