Job Description

Time Commitment 12-18 days per year Remunerated The College of Policing is the first professional body for all in policing in England and Wales. It is a membership organisation and acts in the public interest. The College is currently a company limited by guarantee, owned by the Home Secretary, and an arms length Body of the Home Office. Our Board of Directors comprises individuals who bring knowledge, skills and experience from across different sectors including policing, academia, business and government. The College aspires to be a world class professional body that will shape and influence policing for future generations. This is an exciting time to join the College as an independent Board member. We have a challenging agenda of implementing the policies and programme that have been developed over the last three years in conjunction with our stakeholders. Our vision is to be a world-class professional body, equipping our members with the skills and knowledge to prevent crime, protect the public and secure public trust. We can only do this if, as an organisation, we operate to the highest operational and ethical standards. As a Board director you would play a significant role in securing the Colleges long-term success, setting its strategic direction and making a real difference to policing and public protection across England and Wales. We are very committed to having the right people with the right skills, knowledge and experience on the Board to enable us to achieve our aspirations. Candidates should be able to demonstrate experience of operating at senior board level, either in a public or private sector organisation, working successfully with executives and non-executives to take forward the strategic direction of a complex organisation, together with a sound understanding of effective governance. Experience in a senior leadership role in one or more of the following would be particularly useful: A professional membership body An educational establishment, preferably a university The management of risk and assurance. Board members will be remunerated at a rate of £250 for 15 days per annum One of the appointees will also be invited to become Chair of the Boards Audit and Risk Committee. This role will be remunerated at a rate of £300 a day for a maximum of 18 days a year.
