Insight - MSc Sports Performance Analysis Work Placement in partnership with University of Chichester Job Title: Insight Analysis Work Placement (Data Collection Dept) Location - Bath or Twickenham (or surrounding areas) Type of Contract - Fixed Term (2017-18 Season) Remuneration - Bursary to cover MSc Sports Performance Analysis tuition fees (up to GBP 5670). Plus reasonable travel expenses Contract Start Date - 01/09/2017 MSc Sports Performance Analysis This programme of study is designed for graduates seeking to develop specialist knowledge in Sports Performance Analysis. The MSc Sports Performance Analysis programme is carefully aligned to employer needs and aims to provide the knowledge, skills and experience to successfully pursue a career in the area of Sports Performance Analysis. The processes and theories underpinning performance analysis are explored, together with key practical competencies, all delivered in conjunction with a dedicated, intensive work placement offering invaluable industry relevant experience. Summary of the Work Placement Role Insight (formerly PGIR - https://www.insight-analysis.co.uk/) are offering a season long Performance Analysis work placement in partnership with the University of Chichester for the 2017/18 season. The position requires a 28 hour per week commitment to work within the Elite Rugby Department at Insight to help support England Rugby. The role will offer the successful candidate an excellent opportunity to explore the processes and theories that underpin the discipline through the MSc, alongside providing numerous applied learning opportunities in a varied and elite applied rugby setting. The successful candidate will receive a bursary to cover full tuition fees for the course. Duties: It is anticipated that approximately 50% of the placement will be spent working under our team of senior analysts to assist in the delivery of a variety of analysis processes and services to England Team(s) and the Professional Game Match Officials Team. This may include: Bespoke analysis on players, matches or events pertinent to England Team requirements Filming and editing of meetings to enhance feedback Filming of training sessions and or matches as required or directed by senior analysts Administrative tasks to assist in data analysis General analysis support tasks as deemed suitable by Senior Analysts The second part of the role will require the successful applicant work as part of a dedicated team of support analysts, with a responsibility to film and analyse GK IPA championship matches on a weekly basis for the duration of the season Key components of this role include: Capturing of two views at every home match of your allocated GK IPA Championship team, for both Championship and British and Irish Cup Fixtures Providing both teams with a live feed to allow them to perform in-match analysis Providing both teams with a copy of both angles at the completion of the match Uploading footage to a secure web platform post match Producing team and individual analysis each week using Sportscode Completing thorough reliability and accuracy checks on analysis Uploading data to secure platform It is anticipated that the above responsibility will account for approximately 10-15 hours per week In order to maximize the exposure and development of the successful candidates it is expected that, when not completing field based tasks, they will work out of either the Insight office in Bath, or hot desk at RFU training centre's and offices in/around Twickenham. Proximity to these two areas is therefore a pre-requisite for appointment. Essential Requirements: An undergraduate degree in a Sports Science related course (Minimum 2:1) Experience of providing analysis support to a team or individual Knowledge of Rugby Union, it's rules and current players Trustworthy, with ability to work autonomously Very good communication skills Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills and experience Reliable and enthusiastic with the ability to work well under pressure Outstanding work ethic and ability to work and communicate as part of a team. Excellent attention to detail Good understanding of SportsCode software and Apple based products. Available to work unsociable hours including weekends and Bank Holidays Personal circumstances must allow the candidate to work extended hours, evenings and weekends for the duration of the placement. Desirable Skills: Experience of coaching or playing Rugby Experience: Once the successful candidates have been selected they will need to attend 3 days training at Insight on operational definitions and protocols. This will take place in August in advance of the season starting.
