Job Description

Appointment of Three Independent Members of the University Court The University of Aberdeen is one of the UK’s oldest and most distinguished universities. Ranked amongst the Top 200 universities in the world and in the Top 5 for UK graduate employment, Aberdeen has a diverse and vibrant community of 15,000 students, 3,000 staff and annual turnover of £230million. The University plays a crucial role in an internationally important region of Scotland and is committed to building further on its history and international reputation for teaching and research excellence. The University is seeking to appoint three exceptional individuals to serve as independent members on its governing body (the Court) who can support it in that mission. Applications are invited from individuals with a record of successful leadership at a senior level within a public or private sector organisation who are keen to support an internationally competitive research based university. Experience of governance in a non-executive director/charitable trustee role would also be desirable. Interest would be particularly welcome at this time from those with expertise in any of the following: leadership of a significant business; major digital technology transformation; audit; and international experience. Expressions of interest from women and other groups who are currently under-represented on Court are particularly welcome. The expected time commitment is a minimum of 10 days per year including attendance (in person or by teleconference) at four meetings of the Court per year and a willingness to serve on sub-committees of Court. The position is unremunerated but appropriate expenses are paid. The positions are tenable for a period of three years in the first instance. The commencement date is flexible and can be from late summer 2017 onwards. Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency adviser to the University of Aberdeen on this appointment.
