Job Description

College of Policing 4-6 days a month Remunerated This is a critical role, leading the future development of the College of Policing. The College aspires to be a world class professional body that will shape and influence policing for future generations. In its first four years, it has established strong foundations. The College created the first ever Code of Ethics for the Policing Profession of England and Wales and is setting national standards in core areas of policing such as Domestic Abuse Undercover Policing and Cyber Crime that will change policing and build public safety. It has recently started to register members, a critical step in its development as a professional body. The College will grow that membership and develop its ability to influence and shape policing policy nationwide whilst also establishing a firm business model that will enable it to become more financially independent of government. The Chair is ultimately accountable for the long term success of the College, assuring its independence and impartiality so that it retains the confidence of all its stakeholders and the public. There are no fixed views on the specific professional background or sector for this role, the Chair needs to bring skills and knowledge that will complement the police expertise that is already embedded in the College. You will have demonstrable experience of operating at senior board level, most likely as a Chair, working successfully with the Executive and non-executives to develop a high performing Board that takes forward the strategic direction of a complex organisation. A successful track record of managing relations with a complex range of stakeholders in an environment where decisions are under tough internal and external scrutiny will also be key.
