Starting Salary: 9.40 per hour (equivalent to 17,108 per annum FTE) Contract: 6 Month Fixed Term Contract Location: Printworks Hours per week/FTE: 35 hours per week (Full Time) Closing date: 29th June 2016, 5pm Interview date: Wednesday 6th July 2016 Legal intern wanted to help save the planet. Purpose of the Role Friends of the Earths legal team is one of the most exciting places to campaign for environmental justice. We are looking for a legal intern to support the legal teams work from stopping fracking to protecting bees. The internship is an excellent opportunity to gain entry level legal and campaigning experience and skills. The paid internship is in memory of Phil Michaels, a former Head of Legal at Friends of the Earth to keep alive his inspiring legacy of protecting peoples right to a safe environment especially people most disadvantaged by environmental degradation. Working closely with our lawyers you will have a hands-on role in supporting Friends of the Earths campaigns. You will join meetings, conduct research, help to prepare legal documents, see our campaigning in action, and get to know what makes an environmental NGO tick. Main Responsibilities Supporting the legal team by: o Carrying out legal research o Analysing legal problems o Preparing detailed research notes o Organising meetings o Taking and circulating notes of meetings o Preparing bundles of documents for court proceedings and counsel o Filing documents at court o Support the functioning of the Rights & Justice Centre Advice Line Key Skills and Attributes - Good computer literacy skills including using Microsoft Office and internet - Good analytical and written skills - Experience of undertaking legal research including using legal databases - Studied or practiced public / EU / environmental / planning law Education / qualifications Law degree or equivalent About the Team Friends of the Earths Legal team sits within our Rapid Response (political, legal and planning) Unit at the fast-paced heart of our campaigns.
