The Commercial and Operations department are looking to recruit to a number of new Heads of Service roles. The department was formed in September 2015 and the services within the department are amongst the most visible of all Council services to citizens and visitors delivering front line and essential services ranging from leisure centres, trading standards, highways maintenance, community protection and managing the Citys waste. Big city events are run and/or supported by the department such as Goose Fair as well as managing the internationally renowned and iconic sites including Nottingham Castle, Wollaton Park and Newstead Abbey. The department employs nearly half the City Councils total workforce and as a Head of Service you will be required to engender trust with a wide range of senior colleagues, including Corporate Directors and Councillors being seen as the expert in your field, advising upon and influencing strategic decision making. You will provide leadership and drive forward commercial operating models, as well as challenging the status quo. As the lead for your specific service area you will be responsible for motivating your workforce by setting stretching and ambitious targets, robustly managing performance and developing talent. Nottingham leads the way in being a commercially-minded, innovative Council but we want to go much further. This newly created role will lead a Business Development and Commercial Innovation team which will help reshape and reimagine our Council. You will lead a team which works across the Council seeking new market and business opportunities, as well as a sales and bidding team challenged with enhancing our commercial performance. You can be from a variety of professional backgrounds in either the public or private sector, but what is crucial is that youve the commercial acumen to help us succeed, with a strong focus on P & L performance and an ability to inspire and shape a successful public-sector, commercial future.
