Job Description

Are you a law graduate? You can apply to volunteer for our Rights & Justice Centre, in London. We're also looking for people with a graduate diploma in law, and newly qualified lawyers. We also welcome applications from people with substantive experience in the legal profession. Volunteers assist the Rights and Justice team with legal research and help out with cases and campaigns. Our Rights & Justice Centre offers free legal support, helping communities and other campaign groups protect their environment. This doesn't just mean nature and green spaces, but our communities and the places we live, work, play, learn and shop. The legal team also support Friends of the Earths work on issues like climate change and nature. This includes using the law to: hold decision makers to account; ensure local people are consulted on important decisions which affect their local areas; where necessary, go to court to challenge decisions which we believe to be unlawful; enhance regulatory standards and increase environmental protection What we're looking for: Motivated proactive team players Computer literacy Microsoft Office, email and the Internet Analytical and writing skills Experience of undertaking legal research An interest in environmental law, public interest law or community legal advice. Experience in public law or environmental law is helpful, but not essential. We normally seek to recruit volunteers for six month periods (from September to February and March to September) each year to join our legal team. We are therefore looking for someone to join us from March this year to end of February next year and to volunteer for at least 4 days a week to the team. The closing date is Thursday 18 February 9am. The interviews are likely to take place during the week commencing 22 February.
