37.5 hours per week Maidstone, West Kent RETEX1705 Rethink Mental Illness is a charity that believes a better life is possible for millions of people affected by mental illness. For 40 years we have brought people together to support each other. We run services and support groups across England that change peoples lives and we challenge attitudes about mental illness. Our Kent and Medway Community Development Health Service, for Black Minority and Ethnic Groups work across Kent with related agencies to develop the cultural competencies of organisations and their workforces for more responsive service provision and to identify gaps in Mental Health service delivery. This includes positive mental health promotion, cultural sensitivity awareness, improving access to talking therapies and other forms of supportive therapies. This new position will be working specifically with women from the Gypsy and Traveller communities living in Kent and Medway; to support activities, which facilitate positive mental health and general wellbeing. The successful candidate will work in partnership with other organisations in providing opportunities for women from these communities to identify and address issues that affect physical and mental wellbeing. The role will facilitate access to existing services and support early intervention and access to primary care services; encourage women from these communities to have a voice in raising concerns around domestic violence and other issues which impacts on self esteem and self image. To be considered for the role you will need to have a thorough understanding of the Gypsy and Traveller community culture and be able to demonstrate experience of rapidly building rapport and developing robust supportive relationships with females from the communities. Previous experience of supporting females through domestic violence and abuse would be advantageous. Interviews will be held week commencing 19th August 2013.
