Salary circa £38,000 pa negotiable based on skills and experience

We have a great job opportunity for an established Automation Tester to join our brilliant Testing team here in the North East. As our Automation Test Analyst you will execute application specific validation and testing activities working in collaboration with the business and our digital team. You’ll get involved in validating any new or changed service matches its Design Specification and making sure they meet the business requirements.

About Our Team

Hello! We are Home Group’s dedicated Information Services Test team. Our job is to make sure all of Home Group’s IS works as it should. We’ve got a broad remit, so we work across different projects on different platforms, technologies and teams. There’s plenty of variety in our jobs!

To us we’re not just a team, we’re a ‘work family’. There are 7 of us in in the team, and we don’t just love to support our customers, we’re there for each other too! We’ve got a great team foundation to build upon, but we still need more awesomeness, which is where you come in…

You’ll work for Tony, our Test Manager who is still in his first year at Home Group (he knows what it’s like to join the team!). Outside of work Tony and his wife are in training for his 3rd Great North Run later this year. We’re a great team to join, add really add value to the job we do in IS Services.  We’re pretty sure he’s got this and with you by his side…we know you’ll do great things!

A Bit About You

We’re looking for someone who has experience as automation tester or automated functional tester either as a dedicated tester or as part of their previous work experience.  The key thing is that you’re a lover of technology with a real eye for detail and an analytic, enquiring mind.

Technically, we use automated test code for our digital applications so we’re looking for someone who can support and build upon java-based testing tools.  Experience in working with behaviour driven development (BDD) would also be welcome but it isn’t essential.  It would be great if you had the right certificates, such as ISTQB / ISEB qualifications, however it’s your great transferrable skills and the desire to work towards getting certified that matter most!

While you’ll be part of the test team, you’ll often take on sole responsibility for all aspects of testing.  You’ll work with development teams, project managers, end users and other groups to ensure some or all criteria of testing are fulfilled.

It’s also important that you aren’t a shy and retiring type, as we need you to challenge our stakeholders and voice your opinions where it matters. It’s also critical that you finish what you started, as here at Home Group you’ll own the end to end test cycle from Test Planning and Design through to Test Closure.

You’re an expert in the technical aspects of software, you’ll be gathering requirements, generating test scripts, test plans and integration with software components. You’ll have knowledge of and experience with tools such as CRM, CMS, ERP, JIRA and similar, with the ability to write clear, robust test cases.

Here at Home Group we believe flexibility works both ways. Our focus is on getting the job done, not your working hours! We have invested heavily in our IT infrastructure to allow us to do our job in an agile way.

We’re back to elements of office working, and now operating in a hybrid way, allowing for flexibility of working at home and in the office to allow us to work collaboratively and share best practices amongst the team.

At the moment our head office is on Gosforth, but by the end of the year we will be in our state of the art new head office next to StJames park!
