We are currently recruiting for an experienced Data and Development Manager to manage our Digital Development Team, oversee all our digital development and data projects, control Audit Scotland’s cloud applications and participate in our strategic decisions as part of our Digital Management Team.
This exciting role will lead our Digital Development Team which forms part of our Digital Services Team. Delivering innovative solutions and improving how Audit Scotland operates. Overall purpose of the role
Managing our SQL Developer, Cloud Application Developer, Digital Projects Manager and Data Application Developer, you will manage a diverse skilled team using agile principles to develop new applications in our cloud platform, manage very large data sets and deliver analytical tools to positively impact on how Audit Scotland operates. As part of our Digital Services Management Team you will be jointly responsible for developing, managing and maintaining the security and resilience of all our digital services

Your will manage and be responsible for:
• Managing our in-house development team. Valuing people, nurturing, and developing a diverse and welcoming team that has the necessary skills and experience to deliver high quality solutions.
• All development projects both in-house and third party. You are responsible for projects being delivered on time and in budget while ensuring the highest standards of security and wherever possible reusability and open-source solutions
• All the tools, architecture, and environments we use to collect, organise, process, and present our data both in the cloud and on premise
• You will be a member of our Digital Services Management Team, jointly responsible for our business wide ;Digital project resourcing and delivery
• Managing the Digital Services Team and its budgets, training, and resources
• Decision making that forms our Digital Services Strategy
• Digital security and business resilience
• 24/7 incident management capacity
• Represent Audit Scotland’s Digital Services both internally and externally at the highest level
Specific knowledge and experience
Essential
You will be an experienced people manager and will have lead numerous successful large development project. You are educated to degree level or have demonstrable, relevant experience of working in one or more of the following areas: digital development, digital security, cloud services development, or data analytics:
• You are educated to degree level or have demonstrable, relevant experience of working in one or more of the following areas: digital development, digital security, cloud services development, or data analytics.
• You have previously managed a small development team and/or have led a small development team to deliver a number of large projects
• You have experience of delivering business wide digital project resourcing, delivery and maintenance as where cyber security and business continuity are critical components.
• You value people, nurturing and developing a diverse and welcoming team that has the necessary skills and experience to deliver high quality solutions.
• You lead by example and welcome the opportunity to ‘roll up your sleeves’ and get involved with projects, be that running occasional project meetings, testing code, submitting code changes, or designing UX you have an excellent understanding of how our development team works.
• You are self-motivated and driven, able to spend periods working on your own, but also experienced in leading meetings, participating in regular one to ones with your team members, making regular management decisions
• You are open and accepting of new ideas, able to listen to difficult feedback from colleagues and clients, however, you are also able to take a firm position explaining why some requests are not and will not be possible.
Desirable .
• You have experience writing code ideally using Microsoft technologies
• You have experience of managing large data sets ideally using Microsoft technologies
• You have experience of managing and deploying cloud applications using best security practices
• You may have some experience of data analysis and data processing/ETL, ideally including R or Python or Power BI
• You are technical and relish the challenge of technical problems, you enjoy learning new skills and adapting existing skills to find effective solutions and you want to share your knowledge and experience with your team.
