Lead DevOps Engineer

Salary: £50,000 - £65,000

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne/Leeds/Manchester/Edinbrugh - Hybrid Working

Type: Permanent

A global intelligence company are looking for a Lead DevOps Engineer to define the activities of the technical team by providing the necessary on-prem and cloud-based build and test environments, tools and supporting services. You must have a successful track record in fast moving, on-prem, hybrid and cloud centric Dev Ops using agile methodologies, coupled with enthusiasm, energy, and an ability to engage consultatively with technical teams and other key stakeholders. This role will give you the opportunity to take ownership of DevOps methodologies and be a leadership figure within the division.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Azure/AWS Cloud Platforms and experience with Azure/AWS migrations
  • Identify and implement improvements in quality or systems/processes.
  • Experience of build/release/test pipelines and automations
  • Detailed understanding of source control systems (Git or Mercurial)
  • Strong knowledge of one or more Scripting languages.
  • Knowledge information security across a broad IT spectrum, ideally to ISO27001
  • Track record of driving solutions that resulted in measurable productivity benefits.
  • Enthusiasm for learning new technologies.
  • Experience of working within an agile environment.
  • Strong experience with Windows Servers and knowledge of Linux would be beneficial
  • Certification to Azure Architect level is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Define the overall strategy and execute the technical delivery of the build and test execution environments.
  • Define and automate system builds across multiple platforms.
  • Maintain and enhance version control systems including cloud capabilities.
  • Help developers optimise the build, test and release pipeline.
  • Define and configure appropriate cloud capabilities to support our strategic technical objectives.
  • Provide data security assurance and technical consultancy to maintain our data integrity.
  • Monitor and optimise the build and test systems to maximise performance.
  • Provide expertise on cloud costs and benefits as input to strategic planning.
  • Maintain, debug and expand build capabilities on a day to day basis.
  • Automate software build, test and deployment tasks.
  • Define hardware and software budget, requirements, configuration and maintenance for the technical team.
