Job Description

Waking Nights Support Worker

West Midlands, Dudley, Halesowen

Permanent, Full Time (37.5 hours per week)

Starting salary up to £20,000 pa (pro rata) based on skills and experience, plus, brilliant benefits!

Delivering support with a difference. That’s when it hits home.

As part of our new team of Support Workers, you’ll be assisting two wonderful, yet complex young men who are brothers and in fact twins! They are autistic and love spending time indoors and outdoors doing the things they enjoy and are important to them. They have sensory processing difficulties and often seek out sensory feedback to help them regulate their emotions including playing music, exposure to running water, seeking out and repeating movements that are purposeful for them and other activities individual to them both. This could be walking in the park, enjoying the experience of being in a swimming pool or going out for a supported drive in the countryside.

Understanding how these fantastic young men respond to sensory messages is important to be aware of, as sometimes sounds and smells as well as touch can feel different for them and be over stimulating or something that they seek out. With the understanding and the help of our Team Leaders and clinical team, you’ll help coordinate activities and experiences meaningful to them and for them, so that they can participate in their favourite things as well as trying out new things that have been identified as aspirations for the future.

You’ll be part of our brilliant new team providing support that is person-centred, recognises someone’s past life and experiences and builds on their strengths. You’ll be helping them to enjoy the best quality of life and live as independently as possible. You’ll provide consistent customer focused support and routines underpinned by predictability, effective ways to communicate determined by customer preference. You'll use your knowledge of our customers strengths, along the support of their amazing parents to maximise opportunities. You’ll be patient, have a calm disposition, great listening skills as well as remaining assertive and encouraging.

As our waking night Support Worker you’ll be part of a small night working team. You’ll offer a first point of call when needed. During your shift you’ll support our customers as and when needed. You’ll also make sure all records are up to date, auditing customer files, safeguarding the building and carrying out some light cleaning duties.

About our team

Although you’ll work nights, we do get together regularly in the day time for training and team meetings. You’ll be part of our wider team who are super passionate about supporting customers to reach their goals and celebrating their achievements.  To us were not just a team we’re a ‘work family’.

You’ll report to Deb our brilliant Registered Manager who has worked for Home Group for 5 years. Deb has loads of experience in working with customers with both mental health and learning disabilities. Outside of work you’ll find her watching her local football team, spending quality time with her family and just loves cooking for friends.

Where you’ll work

You’ll work with our customers in their own home in Halesowen as well as assisting them in the community. Ideally, you’ll have a full current driving licence and access to a vehicle or if not willing to use public transport to support them and we’ll pay your expenses to cover this.

Working hours

Our customers’ need support 24/7 to meet their needs, so you’ll take your turn working on a rota which  includes working nights including weekend and bank holiday night time working. As we’re asking you to be flexible for our customer, we’ll also give you the time back that you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you!

About you

You’re passionate and motivated to help our customers with any aspect of their day to day living. You’ll impress us with your ability to work in a person centred, strengths-based way, enabling your customers to enjoy the best possible quality of life. You’ll help change their life for the better by involving them (and their support network) in working towards their aspirations and achievements. You’ll provide personal care in a strengths-based way to facilitate greater independence, as well as use creative solutions to support independence.

It’s important that you have worked in a similar role before, are willing to provide personal care and have experience of helping customers to reach their full potential. Ideally holding level 2 or equivalent in Health and Social Care (or be willing to study for this with our support), you’ll have a great knowledge of professional boundaries, safeguarding, risk assessment and working with personalised support plans.

When you join, you’ll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you don’t have a transferrable one.

How we’ll support you

Don’t worry, we won’t drop you in the deep end, we’ll nurture your talent, help you understand how things work here and you’ll have a fantastic induction with ongoing learning and development! You’ll be trained to keep an eye on customer’s mental and physical health, identifying any signs of deterioration, and take positive risk management to ensure our customers health and wellbeing.

We want you to get the right balance and to be and feel always at your best to continue to deliver brilliant outcomes for our customer. So, your wellbeing and taking time back when you need it too is our top priority!
