Job Description

You will enjoy the variety of this central role in delivering vital work to safeguard the marine environment. Because everythings better with nature. You included.

At Natural England, we advise the UK Government on the natural environment. Were here to make sure people and nature can thrive. From advising farmers on sustainable land management, to gathering and analysing environmental data, and promoting health and wellbeing through the great outdoors, we love what we do. Join us and youll be part of an inclusive, motivated and ambitious team, committed to achieving results for our environment, for everyone.

As a Marine Adviser, you will work with colleagues to drive the conservation and recovery of the marine environment. Youll do this through the provision of advice, monitoring and casework. Your Team Leader will support you to build expertise in priority areas of our marine-focused work. This can include: helping to produce formal conservation advice packages for our Marine Protected Area (MPA) network, carrying out MPA condition assessments and marine monitoring work, and delivering casework. The team will rely on your administrative and processing support, and will value your contribution to gathering and analysing data for habitat reviews.

To join us, you will need to demonstrate awareness of legislation relating to the marine environment, together with an understanding of habitat management. Some knowledge of marine ecology, processes and biodiversity in UK waters is essential. Knowledge of marine industries and their interaction with marine and coastal habitats would be a real advantage. Ideally, youll have experience of planning, monitoring and delivering projects. You will certainly bring to the role a demonstrable ability to make and clearly explain objective, evidence-based decisions.

We welcome and encourage applications from all communities and, wherever possible, we accommodate requests for both full and part-time hours and other flexible working patterns. Everyone at Natural England is supported to develop their skills and capabilities. You can also look forward to great benefits including a Civil Service pension.

If youre inspired to protect and enhance Englands wildlife, and want to work for a leading science-led organisation, apply here.
