About the role

For over 200 years, Ordnance Survey have been world leaders in providing geospatial information. This role is pivotal to helping our customers unlock the potential of this data, by providing technical expertise and insights, and partnering to collaboratively create innovative solutions and ensure maximum utilisation of all tools available.

As a senior member of the team, you will utilise your knowledge and experience of working with geospatial information and Ordnance Survey data and services to provide technical and business advice to Local Government customers, partners and system suppliers. You will help customers in the moment with technical support and provide insights and recommendations for more sophisticated and efficient use of our data and products.

You will be recognised as a GI technical lead with at least one technical specialism, and able to work at pace.

You will be the voice of the customer (Local Government) within OS. You will influence the development of our products in line with our customers expectations and goals. Additionally, youll lead, coach and mentor other team members, sharing your knowledge and challenging their thinking. You will have responsibility for a defined region where you will lead on balancing the needs of the key sectors and national initiatives within your region. 

Some of the responsibilities of the role include:

Identify, build and maintaining successful working relationships both internally and externally (customers, Partners and System suppliers), with the ability to flex communication styles

Leading the creation of technical solutions using a broad range of industry knowledge and expertise

Co-ordinating the delivery of post-solution support and advice to internal stakeholder for development and to external stakeholders as a consultant

Collaborating with colleagues to write project reports, propositions and proposals

Developing and mentorTechnical Relationship Consultants

Influencing and presenting to key internal stakeholders internally and externally

What were looking for: 

Strong analytical skills to enable effective planning and decision making

Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills

The ability and gravitas to build and maintain excellent working relationships and manage senior stakeholders

Industry credibility when interacting with decision makers

Proven ability to work to tight and changeable deadlines

Experience of analysing requirements and identifying key decision points within the proposition lifecycle

Experience in the Local Government sector.

On the technical side, we are looking for evidence of good knowledge across one or more of the following:

Databases

GIS

Data Converters

Web mapping and middleware

Programming languages

Geospatial platforms

Detailed knowledge of OS data (products and services)

Knowledge of logical and physical data design

Understanding of the implementation of digital services

This role will require being part of an on-call rota as we provide important Mapping for Emergencies support 24/7, 365 across GB.
