The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health has never had a more important role to play in keeping people safe and healthy at work, with our members playing a critical role in supporting businesses globally as they plot the route ahead through and beyond the current pandemic. IOSH is the world's leading professional body responsible for safety and health in the workplace. As a champion, supporter, adviser, advocate and trainer for those who protect the safety, health and wellbeing of others, we are a consistent and authoritative voice for the profession. We provide services, training and development to 48,000 members in 130 countries, as well as shaping the future of the profession and influencing key decisions that impact the safety, health and wellbeing of people at work worldwide.

This is an exciting time to join the Institution as we plan the succession to our ambitious WORK 2022 strategy, which has focused on enhancing the profession, collaborating to build strategic partnerships, and influencing and strengthening our impact globally. The organisation has been on a significant transformation journey in recent years and you will be joining at a time where there is plentiful opportunity to capitalise on and consolidate that work. Following a successful internal appointment, IOSHs new Chief Executive will start in post in August 2021, and therefore this internal role change has opened the opportunity for the post of Director of Professional Services.

The Director of Professional Services will be responsible for a broad portfolio of services centred around leading an excellent, inclusive and highly member-focused directorate. You will play a key ambassadorial role with members, volunteers and a range of other stakeholders, alongside developing and delivering our work in professional development and standards, OSH policy and research and content. As a member of our senior leadership team, the role also has critical strategic responsibilities in providing oversight to the organisation and interacting with the board of trustees, its sub-committees and our Council.

You will be an engaging senior leader with a track record of delivering high quality services,  leading engagement to a diverse stakeholder base and will have the ability to understand the complexities and challenges within  a professional body. You will have a proven track record of shaping and delivering professional standards and demonstrate the ability to deliver a broad range of operational services. Demonstrable experience of motivating and developing high performing teams is critical, as is delivering continuous improvement and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.

Whilst experience of front-line occupational safety and health is not essential, you will demonstrate an appreciation for its importance and impact in the workplace and have the ability to get to grips with the key drivers, opportunities and challenges faced by the sector. You will bring the drive, integrity, flexibility and collaboration needed to ensure the continued impact of an excellent and varied offer to our global membership.
