Job Description

Time commitment: 4 Board meetings per year and an overall time commitment of c. 1-2 days per month

Location: Central London

What Works for Childrens Social Care has a compelling mission to dramatically increase the quality and quantity of research in childrens social care to enable social workers, systems leaders and policymakers to make evidence-informed decisions that impact on the lives of young people every day.  A young charity, incorporated in April 2021 following a period of incubation inside Nesta, the UKs innovation charity, we harness the innovation and potential for change taking place across the sector and build the evidence on what works, for whom, where and why.

Our Founding Chair, Sir Alan Wood leaves us in March 2021. We are therefore seeking our next Chair to steer the organisation through our next phase of growth as a policy ‘start up with ambitious goals.

The Chair will be an established leader who brings credibility within the sector.  Leading a high-performing board, you will have a strong understanding of the context in which Childrens Social Care is delivered and the broader agenda around evidence-based policy and practice in public services. A skilled and credible relationship-builder with strong stakeholder engagement skills, you will be able to play a significant role in securing sustainable funding partnerships.  Above all, you will be passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people and committed to making a positive impact on how our profession supports the 700,000 children, young people and their families who have contact with the childrens social care sector each year.

What Works for Childrens Social Care is committed to building a diverse and inclusive Board to better represent the communities we serve. We encourage applications from everyone, regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, race, pregnancy and maternity, religion or belief, and marriage and civil partnerships and all our appointments are based on merit.
